Debit Card Conversion Guide

Changes to your 1st Ed debit card:

1st Ed Credit Union is excited to announce improvements to our debit card program. This will mean a few changes to your account, and we want to make sure you know exactly what’s happening.

You will receive a new debit card in the weeks leading up to June 3. As of June 3, you will no longer be able to use your current debit card and may activate and begin using your new debit card. We’re excited to offer you our new 1st Ed debit card, as always, we remain committed to providing you with great service! 

New Features

  • Tap to Pay Functionality – Look for the contactless symbol on the payment terminal.
  • EMV Chip Technology: Your new debit card will continue to have an embedded chip that will help increase security and reduce fraud. The EMV chip will be in addition to the standard magnetic strip.
  • 1st Ed SmartWallet (Coming soon!): Real-time card information, including transactions, pending activity, payment information, custom alerts, and more. More information will be available within our Digital Conversion Guide soon.

What to Know, What to Do Next, and Who to Call

  • Your new card will be mailed on or before May 20. Please allow 7-10 business days for delivery.
  • New cards will be mailed to all cardholders, regardless whether you are the primary or secondary account member. Your debit card number will not change, your expiration date, CVV code and PIN will change.
  • If you plan to use your card at an ATM, you will be required to use a PIN. You can select your unique PIN during the activation of the card or call later to select your PIN. Please call 1-800-992-3808 to select a new PIN.
  • If you have automatic payments made with your current debit card, make sure to contact each vendor with your new updated debit card expiration date and CVV number.
  • For your convenience we have included frequently asked questions at the end of this email. If you have any additional questions or inquiries, please call us at (717) 264-6506, option #2.
  • To report fraud on your 1st Ed debit card please call the credit union at (717) 264-6506 (option 6).
  • To report your 1st Ed debit card as lost or stolen please call 1-800-472-3272.

New Rewards Program

Starting June 3, you will have a new rewards program for your 1st Ed debit card called UChoose Rewards®. UChoose Rewards® will allow you to redeem points on your debit card purchases to use toward cash back, merchant gift cards, and more.

 

Exciting new redemption features of the new rewards program include:

  • A catalog where you can choose to redeem points for merchandise, travel, activities, events, and more.
  • Pay with Points at participating merchants and digital wallets beginning July 2024.
  • Pay with Points- Amazon beginning July 2024.

 

Important information about the transition of the rewards program:

  • Points can no longer be earned/redeemed under our current program after May 31.
  • You may start earning points with your new debit card beginning June 3 when you start using the new debit card to make purchases.
  • Any remaining points earned with our current program will be transferred to the new UChoose Rewards® Program.

Key Dates

May 20 – New debit card mailed on or before this date.

May 31 – Last day to earn and/or redeem rewards points under our current program. Your points will carry over at time of conversion.

June 3 – Old debit card becomes inactive on this date.

June 3 – You can activate your new debit card and begin using it. Please use the Social Security Number of the primary accountholder to activate your new debit card.

June 3 –New rewards program begins with UChoose Rewards®. You will be able to earn and redeem points at this time.

FAQs

Why am I receiving a new debit card?

We are changing our card processor to better serve your needs. This change requires that a new card be issued.

Will I have a new PIN so I can access cash from my debit card?

You will no longer receive a PIN in the mail, and your old PIN will not work with the new card. You can select your unique PIN by calling the number on the activation label and choosing the PIN option.

What number should I call to activate my debit card, or to report a lost or stolen card?

The phone number for debit card activation and PIN change is 1-800-992-3808, and the phone number to report a lost or stolen debit card and to report fraud is 1-800-472-3272.

What number should I call to report fraud on my 1st Ed debit card?

If you believe you have found fraudulent activity on your 1st Ed debit card please call us at 717-264-6506 (option 6).

Who will contact me if suspicious activity or fraud is identified on my 1st Ed debit card?

If suspicious activity or fraud is identified on your 1st Ed debit card, you will be contacted by the Fraud Department.

My existing card does not expire for quite a while; can I continue using my existing card until expiration?

No. Your existing card will not work effective June 3, and you will be sent a new card beforehand. Instructions will come with your new card to ensure it is ready to use on June 3.

My spouse and I both have 1st Ed debit cards, and I only received one card. Will my spouse receive a card?

Yes. As a security feature, all cards being issued with this conversion will have a unique number and will arrive separately.

What do I need to do if I have preauthorized or recurring payments that are tied to my existing 1st Ed debit card?

To ensure there is no interruption in recurring or preauthorized payments (such as monthly telephone, electricity, gas bills, insurance, clubs), contact the merchant on or after June 3 with your new expiration date and CVV code.

Do I need to register my new debit card before I can start earning points?

Yes, you will need to register your new debit card with the new UChoose Rewards program on or after June 3, to start earning points. More information on how to register your new debit card with UChoose will follow in the near future.

Where can I earn points?

You earn points everywhere your 1st Ed VISA® debit card is accepted for signature transactions.
