Fannett-Metal Senior High School juniors and seniors got a glimpse of life after graduation at their Financial Reality Fair on April 5, 2019. Nearly 70 students explored opportunities in their chosen career path to find an entry-level position and average yearly salary to create their budget for the event. During the fair, the students pretend they have no car, no cell phone and their parents have asked them to find their own housing; each student has to make choices for their monthly expenses from food to transportation to salon trips. Once the students completed their monthly expense choices, they had to spin the Wheel of Reality. You never know if the Wheel of Reality will land you some extra cash from a bonus at work or if you’ll have to pay out of pocket to fix a flat tire. To finish up, the students met with a Financial Counselor to figure out if they were under or over budget. Students that were over-budget were sent back to the booths to make a less desirable choice or maybe even apply for a part-time job; students that were under budget discussed savings and debt reduction tactics.
