Twelve seniors from Shalom Christian Academy researched their chosen careers and entry-level salaries in order to participate in a Financial Reality Fair hosted by 1st Ed Credit Union on May 10, 2018. Students were broken into two groups of 6 and given options to choose their monthly expenses for housing, transportation, food and more. Once they completed their monthly expenses, they calculated everything to see if they spent less than they brought home. Students that overspent were encouraged to downgrade some of their expenses or if they didn’t want to, they could get a part-time job. Students that had money left over at the end of the month were given pointers on debt repayment and saving for emergencies. At the end of the fair, students were excited to have participated in the fair and be given an idea of life after graduation.
