Students at the Boys & Girls Club of Chambersburg & Shippensburg learned about important financial topics on Thursday, February 21 from representatives from 1st Ed Credit Union and uFinancial Group. The elementary age students talked about what they were saving for which was anything from college to a PS4, learned about spending and saving through a story and participated in an activity where they chose whether they liked to spend money or save money. After the activity, there was a discussion on the fact that in order to spend money, you have to save it. The middle and high school students held discussions on saving at least 20% from each of their paychecks, that you should always pay yourself first, how compound interest works and the benefits of saving when you’re young, and that it’s not about how much you earn; it’s about how much you spend. Each student at the club received a workbook compliments of 1st Ed Credit Union on the topics discussed in their group.
