It Pays To Compare

A loan from 1st Ed almost always cost less than the competitors’. You’ll save with reasonable rates and terms. When reviewing your loan options, consider the money-saving features we offer at 1st Ed:

  • No prepayment penalties
  • No application fees
  • Simple interest – you only pay interest for the time you borrow the money
  • For a limited time only, you can take advantage of our 90 day no pay offer

New vs. Used Car Financing

We finance both new and used vehicles, so you can choose whichever option fits your lifestyle and your budget. New car loans typically carry the lowest interest rates, while used car interest rates in PA are usually a bit higher to reflect the age and mileage of the vehicle.

Getting pre-approved before you shop puts you in the driver’s seat. You’ll know your rate, term, and budget before you ever set foot on a lot, which gives you real leverage when it’s time to negotiate.

Either way, our team will help you find a term and monthly payment that works for you, with no prepayment penalties if you decide to pay your loan off early.

How Your Auto Loan Rate Is Determined

A few factors shape the rate you qualify for: your credit score and history, the length of the loan term, the age and mileage of the vehicle, and your down payment.
Members with stronger credit generally qualify for the lowest auto loan rates, but our lending team works with members across the credit spectrum and can talk through options if you are still building or rebuilding your credit.

Auto Loan FAQs

Our auto loan rates vary based on the loan term, the age of the vehicle, and your credit history. As a member-owned credit union, 1st Ed keeps rates competitive and often lower than banks or dealerships. See our current auto loan rates on our loan rates page, then apply online in minutes.

A credit union auto loan works much like any auto loan: We finance your vehicle and you repay it in fixed monthly payments over a set term. The difference is that, as a not-for-profit, 1st Ed returns value to members through lower rates and fewer fees. You can get pre-approved before you shop, which gives you greater bargaining power at the dealership.

Financing keeps your savings intact while giving you a predictable, manageable monthly payment instead of one large hit to your bank account. Your payment is based on your loan amount, APR, and term. Getting pre-approved before you shop lets you lock in a rate and budget ahead of time. Making on-time payments can also help strengthen your credit score over time. There is no single cutoff. Members with stronger credit typically qualify for the lowest rates, but our lending team reviews each application individually and works with members at many different credit levels. If you are still building credit, contact us, and we can talk through your options.

Yes. GAP Plus Coverage can help cover the difference between what your insurance pays and what you still owe if your vehicle is totaled or stolen, and Protection Plus can help protect your loan payments if a job loss, disability, or other life event affects your ability to pay. Both typically cost less through 1st Ed than similar coverage at the dealership, so it’s worth asking about them when you get pre-approved.
