Repossession Bidding FAQs

Who is eligible to bid on a repossessed vehicle from 1st Ed Credit Union?

Membership at 1st Ed Credit Union is not required to bid on a vehicle.  However, if you are interested in obtaining financing through 1st Ed, membership is required.

1st Ed Credit Union does not allow the sale of any repossessed vehicle to an employee, director or their close relatives.  The credit union defines close relatives as Spouse, Parent, Child, Sibling, Grandparent, Grandchildren, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews or Domestic Partner, including all such relationships that exist through marriage or domestic partnership (i.e. step-, half-, and in-laws).

How do I view the repossessed vehicle?

The vehicle is located at our Chambersburg Branch at 1156 Kennebec Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201. An appointment to view the vehicle is not necessary, but if you have questions please call 717-264-6506 x1118.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Only cash or certified funds are accepted as payment.  If proceeds for the sale are to be obtained through financing, a verified commitment letter must accompany your bid in order for it to be considered.  Checks must be made payable to “1st Ed Credit Union”.

The successful bidder must consummate the sale within 2 business days of notification that the bid has been accepted.  Failure to complete the transaction in the 2 business day time frame will result in forfeiture of the bid and the credit union will then consider the next highest bid.

How Do I Submit a Bid?

Print and sign the Repossession Bid Form and submit it through our online bidding page or drop it off in a sealed envelope at one of our branch locations.

1st Ed Credit Union intends to sell this vehicle in a manner that best protects the financial interest of the Credit Union.  Thus, 1st Ed Credit Union reserves the right to reject any and all bids and may instead consign the vehicle to an auction or wholesale firm.  The decision is at the sole discretion of 1st Ed Credit Union and its directors.

Vehicle is sold AS-IS with no warranties or guarantees either expressed or implied.

ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

1st Ed Credit Union encourages the bidder to have the vehicle inspected by an independent, certified mechanic or technician to confirm the vehicle being purchased does not have any serious or potentially serious mechanical defects.  Furthermore, the bidder is encouraged to seek an independent “Carfax” or similar vehicle condition report as deemed appropriate.  Any inspection, diagnosis, analysis or search of the vehicle condition will be completed at the bidder’s sole discretion and expense.
